You'll see some fancy terms like "High Grade" (HG), “Master Grade” (MG), "Real Grade" (RG), "Super Deformed" - SD and many others. 

Don't worry; they're not secret codes! They're model grades. Focus on those kits that have HG (the one we suggest), SD or RG abbreviations.

They are easy to build, budget-friendly, and still awesome! All the other lineups are for the meticulous minds, more details and a bit trickier, you will get there, but no need to rush.

Pro Tips for Gundam Beginner Builder

Step 1. Get Essential Basic Tools

Before you start building your Gundam model, make sure you have the necessary tools. 

• Marker: Use it to add panel lines and details to enhance the look of your Gundam model.
• Metal file: Helps you remove any rough edges or mold lines from the plastic parts.
• Tweezers: Useful for handling small parts with precision and care.
• Nipper: A specialized cutter to remove plastic parts from the runners without damaging them.

Step 2: Have A Gundam Workspace

Designate a clean, well-lit area (super important) as your Gundam workspace.  Having a dedicated space will help you stay organized and avoid losing small parts. A table or desk with enough room to lay out the parts and tools is ideal.

Consider using a tray or box to keep everything together, reducing the chance of parts rolling away or getting lost.

Additionally, using a cutting mat protects your table from any potential damage when using a hobby knife to remove parts from the runners. 

It's a practical and useful addition to your Gundam building setup.

Step 3: Pick The Right Gundam Grade to Start With

As stated before, as a beginner, start with a grade suitable for beginners, like SD, HG- High Grade Gundam Kit (the most perfect), or RG- Real Grade (similar scale to HG but with more detail.)

These grades have simpler assembly and are less time-consuming (and less complicated) compared to Master Grade (MG) or Perfect Grade (PG) models.

The grade information is typically displayed prominently on the front or sides of the box, along with the series name and the model's specific designation. 

If you're shopping online, the product title or description will usually include the grade information as well.

Step 4: Get Familiar with User Manual

The user manual that comes with your Gundam kit is your essential guide. 

Take some time to carefully read through it before you begin. It provides step-by-step instructions on how to build the model, identifies the parts, and offers useful tips. If it's not in a language you understand, don't worry...simply following the numbers and the letters in the guide will suffice.

Familiarizing yourself with the manual FIRST will prevent confusion and mistakes during the assembly process LATER ON.

Do Grade and Scale Actually Matters?

For beginners, they do matter a bit. Starting with a 1/144 scale High Grade (HG) model is a great choice, and that's what we always recommend.

Here's why:

1. Grade: The grade determines the complexity and level of detail of the model. High Grade (HG) kits are beginner-friendly with straightforward assembly and fewer small parts. This makes them easier to handle and build, perfect for those new to Gundam model building.
   
   
2. Scale: The scale indicates the size of the model compared to the actual Gundam in the anime. 1/144 scale means the model is 1/144th of the size of the real thing. This scale offers a good balance of size and detail, making it easier to work with and display.
   
   
3. Affordability: 1/144 HG models are generally more affordable compared to larger scales. They are a budget-friendly option for beginners who want to try out the hobby without spending too much.
   
   
4. Skill improvement: Starting with a smaller scale allows beginners to build their skills gradually. As you gain confidence and experience, you can move on to larger scales and more advanced models.

Do's and Don't for Beginner Gundam Builders

• Organize the parts: Lay out the parts on a clean surface and group them together based on their numbers. This will help you find the right pieces quickly as you follow the instructions.
• Take your time: Gundam model building is a rewarding hobby, so don't rush the process. Take your time to enjoy each step and ensure a well-built and visually pleasing result.
• Practice patience: Some parts might be small and delicate, so be patient when handling them. Rushing or using excessive force could lead to breakages.

• DON'T mix Gundam pieces from the same grade and scale of different kits!
