Description
**Discover the Akitsushima Seaplane Tender Model Kit - A Piece of World War II History**
Dive into the rich history of World War II with this meticulously crafted model kit of the Akitsushima, a notable seaplane tender of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Serving from 1942 until its demise in September 1944, the Akitsushima played a pivotal role in the IJN's operations during the war.
In 1938, recognizing the strategic advantage of utilizing large-sized flying boats like the Kawanishi H6K for long-range attacks, the IJN sought to enhance their operational effectiveness. This led to the conceptualization of specialized seaplane tenders under the Maru 4 program, culminating in the creation of the Akitsushima. Unlike initial plans which involved a bow-up trim and slope for accommodating flying boats, the final design boasted a 35-ton crane, significantly augmenting its service capabilities. Commissioned on 29 April 1942, the Akitsushima's journey ended in September 1944 when it was sunk at Coron Bay.
This model kit brings the Akitsushima to life with its high-quality molding in gray, black, and brown plastic. It also includes decals to ensure an authentic and detailed representation. Perfect for history enthusiasts and model collectors alike, this kit offers a glimpse into the technological advancements and strategic endeavors of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II.
