Description
Discover the Raupenschlepper Ost (RSO), a pivotal Eastern tracked tow vehicle developed by Austria's Steyr-Daimler-Puch during the tumultuous times of World War II. Designed primarily for the transportation of goods and artillery across the challenging terrains of the Eastern Front, the RSO was a response to the German Army's dire need for a reliable supply vehicle following their invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. The vehicle's development was fast-tracked to create a low-cost, versatile tractor capable of navigating the notoriously muddy roads of the region. Despite its modest maximum speed of 30km/h, the RSO's elevated stature allowed it to adeptly manage both mud and snow, proving itself indispensable for replenishment missions. Over 20,000 units were produced in three distinct models: the RSO/01 with a rounded cabin, the RSO/02 featuring a straight cabin, and the RSO/03 equipped with a diesel engine. While initially intended for the Eastern Front, the RSO's versatility saw it deployed across all fronts for tasks ranging from towing anti-tank guns to heavy mortars.
