Description
Discover the pinnacle of historical ship modeling with the Hasegawa 1/350-scale Akagi Aircraft Carrier Model Kit. Named after the iconic Japanese mountain, the Akagi served as Vice Admiral Nagumo's flagship during the pivotal attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. It played significant roles in the invasion of Rabaul and the attack on Darwin, Australia, before its ultimate fate at the Battle of Midway in 1942. Hasegawa has outdone themselves with this meticulously detailed model of the Akagi as it appeared in 1941, using the latest data to ensure unparalleled accuracy.
This impressive model measures 74.5cm in length (almost 30 inches), 15.7cm in width (over 6 inches), and 11.7cm in height (over 4 1/2 inches), showcasing an incredible level of detail. The model features movable deck-side aerials and hull-mounted guns, offering a dynamic display. It is a full-hull model that comes with a set of stands for proper presentation.
The aircraft of the air wing, including three Mitsubishi A6M2b Type 21 Zero Fighters, six Nakajima B5N2 Type 97 Model 3 Carrier Attack Bombers (Kate), and three Aichi D3A1 Type 99 Model 11 Carrier Dive Bombers (Val), are all molded in clear plastic. This choice enhances the realism and simplifies the painting of canopies, with each aircraft displaying the same level of surface detail as Hasegawa's renowned 1/48-scale kits.
Included in this initial release is a 54cm x 84cm poster featuring the dynamic box art painted by Noriyoshi Orai, adding an extra layer of value to this collectible kit. While this model is already the most detailed and accurate representation of the Akagi available straight out of the box, enthusiasts can elevate it to even greater heights of detail and realism with separately available photo-etched metal detail and wooden deck sets. The fore and aft flight deck support latticework sections are particularly noteworthy, transforming the model into a true masterpiece.
